Tour in the City (agency at Via Labicana 96) · Via Labicana

Live guide or app: check the option

One listing, two different products: fixed-time English group tours with a live guide, and tickets with an audio app on your own phone and no guide at all. It earns its place when official tickets are sold out, as long as you know which option you're paying for.

Colosseum and Forum Tickets with Live Guide or Audio App

About this experience

This listing bundles seven options. Five have a live guide: English group tours at 9.30 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. with headsets, and a private tour in your language. Two have no guide: TICKET & AUDIOGUIDED TOUR and LATE BOOKING & AudioApp give you the tickets plus a QR code for an app on your own phone. The exclusions say it plainly: no tour guide on the audio options, and no phone or headphones provided.

All options include the Colosseum ticket (valued at €18, or €38 for the last-minute version) with Forum and Palatine entry valid for 24 hours. The itinerary allots an hour in the Colosseum and 45 minutes each on the Palatine and in the Forum; on the app options that's your own pace. Staff at the agency at Via Labicana 96, about 300 m from the Colosseum, hand over tickets and the QR code. The listing adds that "in some cases, a Roma Pass may be included", depending on availability and the option.

The app reviews split. Some guests loved the detail; others found the navigation hard, missed a museum or couldn't log in, and several said they'd pay for a live guide next time. Where the listing shines is availability: two guests got in this way when the official shop was sold out. Mind the rules. Arrive 20 minutes early, cancellation is free only up to 7 days before, and no changes are accepted inside a week.

What guests say

★★★★★

The audioguide provided quite a lot of good context for the stuff you see across the three sites that you wouldn't normally get from the placards on site, just be sure to bring your headphones/earbuds of course.

Stephanie was excellent and knowledgeable. She also was very vigilant in monitoring our group health and water consumption.

I will note, they really stick to arrival times so be sure to arrive early for your guide/pick up your tickets. We opted to do the audio guide and it was definitely worth it because the audio guide was so informative and easy to follow along.

Tips before you book

  • Read the option name before you pay. If it says AUDIOGUIDED or AudioApp, nobody guides you.
  • Bring earphones and a charged phone made in 2020 or later. The QR codes on it are your entry.
  • Ask the agency for paper tickets too. One guest in October 2026 said the redemption tickets only worked printed.
  • Expect time shifts on group tours: one guest's 3 p.m. slot moved to 3.45.
  • Tell the agency in advance, by email, about any disability or anything that could slow you down. The listing asks for it.

Where do I meet for the guide or audio app tour?
