Roman Forum tickets

There is no ticket called simply a Roman Forum ticket. Six official tickets open the gates, and the one most visitors already hold is their Colosseum ticket.

The Roman Forum and the Palatine Hill form a single archaeological area run by the Parco archeologico del Colosseo. Every official ticket for it is sold on ticketing.colosseo.it, and the cheapest full-price one costs €18. The confusing part is the names: the ticket that covers the Forum for most people is called the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine ticket, and the Forum-only one is called the Forum Pass SUPER.

Prices and rules below come from the Park's own ticket pages, read in October 2026. Tour prices are Viator from-prices in US dollars, checked the same week.

The quick answer

Visiting the Colosseum anyway? Then you already have the Forum: the €18 Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine ticket gives one entry to the Forum and Palatine within 24 hours before or after your Colosseum slot. Skipping the Colosseum, buy the €18 Forum Pass SUPER instead: no time slot, and it opens the SUPER sites such as the House of Augustus. Add the €2 online fee to either. Under-18s go free and EU citizens aged 18 to 24 pay €2.

Do you need a separate ticket for the Roman Forum?

Not if you're seeing the Colosseum. The standard €18 Colosseum ticket includes one entry to the Forum and Palatine at any time within 24 hours of your Colosseum slot.

The Park's wording is precise: the ticket gives “ONLY 1 entrance to the archaeological area of the Roman Forum-Palatine at the desired time, within 24 hours before or after the booking time at the Colosseum” (official ticket page). The Roman Forum Museum in the Santa Maria Nova cloister is included too.

The Forum and the Palatine are not two sites. They share one fence and five gates, and you walk from the Via Sacra up to the Palatine without another check. Anyone selling you a separate Palatine ticket on top of a Forum ticket is selling air.

You need a different ticket in two cases: you want the Forum without the Colosseum, or you want the closed interiors called the SUPER sites. Both point to the Forum Pass SUPER.

Which official tickets include the Roman Forum?

Six of them: the 24h Colosseum-Forum-Palatine ticket, the Forum Pass SUPER, three Full Experience tickets and the 24h Only Arena ticket.

Here is what each one opens, at full price, from the Park's opening times and tickets page:

TicketPriceColosseumForum and PalatineSUPER sitesValid
Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine (24h)€181st and 2nd levels, museum, no arena; 75 min at the booked timeOne entry within 24 h of the slotNo24 hours

Every online ticket carries a €2 booking fee. One quirk: the ordinary 24h ticket lets you walk through the open part of the Domus Tiberiana on the Palatine, but its exhibition halls need a supplement. The Forum Pass SUPER and the Full Experience tickets include the halls (Domus Tiberiana page). More on what sits behind those doors in the SUPER sites guide.

How does the 24-hour rule work?

One Colosseum entry at the time you booked, and one Forum-Palatine entry at any time in the 24 hours before or after it. Once you leave the Forum, you can't go back in.

Book a Colosseum slot at 10 a.m. on a Tuesday and the Forum gate will let you in once between 10 a.m. Monday and 10 a.m. Wednesday, within opening hours. You can enter the area from the Colosseum side or from a Forum gate; the Park leaves the order to you.

  • The Colosseum slot is fixed. Arrive 15 minutes early at the entrance near the Arch of Constantine, by the so-called Valadier spur. Late arrivals aren't moved to another time.
  • You get 75 minutes inside the Colosseum on this ticket, then you have to leave the monument.
  • The Forum entry is single. Lunch outside, a hotel nap or a forgotten water bottle all end your Forum visit.
  • The Forum the afternoon before is the neat trick: the light is softer, and the next morning belongs to the Colosseum.

Two sample days are in the Colosseum and Forum in one day guide, and the fine print on name changes and validity is in the 2026 ticket rules post.

Want both sites explained? The City Wonders tour gives the Colosseum 1.5 hours, then the Palatine and the Forum, tickets included.

What is the Forum Pass SUPER, and who should buy it?

The Forum-first ticket: €18, no Colosseum, no time slot, and the SUPER sites and the Imperial Fora route included. Buy it if you have seen the Colosseum or don't care about it.

The Forum Pass SUPER needs no booked time. Bought online, it can be used on any day within 30 days; once scanned, it is valid for that day only. It opens the Forum, the Palatine, the Imperial Fora route and, until each fills up, the SUPER sites: the House of Augustus, the Aula Isiaca, Santa Maria Antiqua, the Curia, the Temple of Romulus, the Domus Tiberiana halls and the rest.

Three limits. The SUPER sites open from 9.30 a.m. until 1 hour before the Park closes, which is 3.30 p.m. from 25 October. They are capacity-controlled because of the paintings inside. And the pass cannot be used on the first Sunday of the month, when entry is free.

Our view: for a second visit to Rome, this is the best €18 in the Park. For a first visit with the Colosseum on the list, the €24 Full Experience tickets give you both, with the SUPER sites, over two days.

How much do Roman Forum tickets cost, and who gets in free?

€18 at full price plus a €2 online fee. EU citizens aged 18 to 24 pay €2, under-18s go free, and Roma Pass holders pay €11.50 for the 24h ticket.

Entry is free for everyone on the first Sunday of each month and on 25 April, 2 June and 4 November. The next free days are Sunday 1 November, Wednesday 4 November and Sunday 6 December 2026, then 3 January and 7 February 2027.

Free Sundays come with strings (official free Sunday page). Tickets are handed out in order of arrival at the Piazza del Colosseo office near the Temple of Venus and Rome. No SUPER sites, no Curia, no arena, no underground, no upper levels; the Domus Tiberiana halls stay shut. The Forum Pass SUPER is not valid that day. Skip the free Sunday unless the €18 truly matters: you queue longer and see less.

Reduced and free tickets are issued in the visitor's name like every other, so bring the ID that proves the age or the EU citizenship.

Where do you buy official Roman Forum tickets?

Online on ticketing.colosseo.it, from 30 days before your date. In person, the 24h ticket has been sold only at the Piazza del Colosseo office since 4 May 2026.

Online is the normal route: sales open 30 days ahead, and you can show the receipt on your phone instead of printing it. At the gates, the change in May 2026 matters. The offices at Largo della Salara Vecchia and Foro Romano 1 now sell only the Forum Pass SUPER; the 24h Colosseum-Forum-Palatine ticket is sold in person only at the Piazza del Colosseo office (RomaToday, May 2026).

  • Tickets are named. Keep your ID visible at the entrances; staff check it against the ticket, sometimes more than once.
  • Name changes are rare. For visits from 9 May 2026, one change is allowed, by midnight seven days before the visit, and only for an obvious typo, a wrong fare type in the same order or a serious documented reason, through the official name-change form.
  • Problems: the helpdesk is [email protected] (48 to 72 hours); for same-day trouble, +39 06 21115843.

Lookalike sites resell official tickets at a markup. In April 2025 Italy's competition authority fined CoopCulture and six resellers about €20 million in total over tickets hoarded by bots (ANSA). If the address isn't ticketing.colosseo.it, it isn't the Park.

What if official Roman Forum tickets are sold out?

Buy the Forum Pass SUPER, which has no time slot, or book a tour: operators hold ticket allocations and resell them inside the tour price.

What sells out first is the Colosseum slot, not the Forum. If all you want is the ruins, the Forum Pass SUPER avoids the problem altogether. If you want the Colosseum too and the official calendar is empty, a tour is the legal way in. Bryony, in October 2026, on the guide-or-app tickets: “Buying this ticket meant we were able to get in when otherwise the tickets for colosseum were totally sold out”.

Know what you are buying. On that listing, the 9.30, 11, 1 and 3 o'clock English group options have a live guide; the options named TICKET & AUDIOGUIDED TOUR and LATE BOOKING & AudioApp are tickets plus an app on your own phone, with no guide. The $41 Forum and Palatine tickets include no guide at all, and three of the four written reviews on that page (2022 to 2024) describe being folded into another company's group after a long wait. Guests on other listings also report the odd ticket cancelled by the seller less than a day ahead, so keep a backup plan in peak season.

Is a Viator ticket worth more than the official price?

Only when the extra buys something real: a guide, or entry you couldn't get otherwise. The official ticket costs €20 with the fee; the cheapest Forum entry on Viator is $41 with no guide.

Every tour below includes the Park ticket in its price. What changes is what comes with it:

OptionPrice (2026)GuideWhat the extra pays for
Official 24h ticket€18 + €2 feeNoNothing extra: Colosseum, Forum, Palatine
Official Forum Pass SUPER€18 + €2 feeNoNothing extra: Forum, Palatine, SUPER sites
Forum and Palatine tickets$41NoTicket handover at Colosseo metro

Crown Tours combo$56Yes, 2.5 hGuide in all three sites
City Wonders tour$68Yes, up to 3 hGuide, headsets, arena options

Paying $41 for a ticket that costs €20 makes sense only if you couldn't get the official one. Paying $53 to $68 for a licensed guide in a site with almost no signs is a different matter; is a Forum tour worth it? goes through that. One rule holds for all of them: you still queue at security, because nobody skips that.

Frequently asked questions

Can I see the Roman Forum without a ticket?

Only from outside. The terraces behind the Capitoline and the pavement of Via dei Fori Imperiali look down on much of it for free. Walking among the ruins needs one of the six official tickets.

Does the Colosseum ticket include the Palatine Hill?

Yes. The Forum and the Palatine are one area with shared gates, and the 24h Colosseum ticket gives one entry to both.

Can I enter the Roman Forum twice on the same ticket?

No. Every ticket allows one entry to the Forum-Palatine area. Leave by any gate and that entry is used.

Is the Roman Forum free on the first Sunday of the month?

Yes, with tickets handed out in order of arrival at the Piazza del Colosseo office. The SUPER sites stay closed and the Forum Pass SUPER is not valid that day.
