Crown Tours · Colosseo metro

An even split with Crown Tours

Crown Tours checks you in at its own office above the Colosseo metro, then a guide takes you through the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and the Palatine in 2.5 hours. Pick it if you want all three with the fairest share for the ruins: 45 minutes each in the Forum and on the Palatine.

Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill Tour

About this experience

Crown Tours runs a check-in office at Via della Polveriera 13, a short climb above the Colosseo metro, with purple flags outside and staff in purple T-shirts. You check in, get a headset and walk down with a licensed guide. The itinerary gives an hour in the Colosseum, then 45 minutes in the Forum and 45 on the Palatine. That's the most even split among the big combos: City Wonders gives the Forum 30 minutes.

Options come in English, Spanish and French: a group tour, a small group, Colosseum with Arena, and private Arena tours. Only the Arena options go onto the arena floor. The others stay on the first and second levels, which is the standard Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine ticket (€18 plus the €2 fee, both itemised in the listing). The order of the three sites follows your Colosseum slot, and in July and August the visit is held to 2.5 hours because of the heat.

The reviews are mostly about guides, and mostly good. Read the complaints anyway. On the Rome Marathon day in October 2026 several groups never met a guide; one guest's tour ran past 3 hours; another lost the Palatine when the authorities cut the visit short. And the walk from the office to the entrance is longer than people expect, which matters if you walk with a cane.

  • Tours in English, Spanish and French
  • Small-group and private Arena options
  • Licensed guide, headsets and the €18 ticket included
  • 11,471 reviews at 4.6

What guests say

★★★★★

We had 12 people in our group and as someone who has done plenty tour groups, get the small group tour. It is worth it! [...] You do need to arrive early, they start ON TIME.

It was a long walk from our check in point to the entry point. Since I walk with a cane we did get left behind but we're able to catch up at the entry to Palatine Hill. [...] As a retired history teacher, I strongly recommend a guided tour like this one over trying to do it on your own.

Tour company easy to find and well organized. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and repeated important info. Pace was a little hectic but tour guide stopped often for head count and to allow for photo opportunities.

Matteo was informative and engaging right from the start. No regrets! The tour earpieces were very helpful and I wish all tours required them:)

Tips before you book

  • Enter each traveller's full legal name and date of birth at booking. Missing details mean denied entry.
  • Leave glass, sprays, alcohol and sharp objects at the hotel: all are banned inside the Colosseum.
  • Book an early slot. Guests recommend it for the crowds, and the Forum is far cooler before 11.
  • Book the right band (youth is 18 to 24, child 6 to 17). IDs get checked more than once on the route.
  • If a big event is on, such as the marathon or a strike, message Crown Tours the day before for meeting instructions.
