Booking choice: The twilight walk, from $45 per person. Check dates Tour details
After the gates shut, Rome switches the lights on. The Temple of Saturn, the Arch of Septimius Severus and the columns of the Temple of Vespasian glow against the dark, and from the Capitoline the whole valley is laid out below you.
There are four ways to see it: a Park tour inside, a Colosseum night visit that leaves the Forum for daytime, a guided walk along the edge, or a free stroll. Here is what each one shows you in autumn and winter 2026.
The quick answer
The only way into the Forum after dark is the Park's “A Night at the Roman Forum”: Fridays, 7.30 to 10 pm, about 75 minutes, €35, sold only on ticketing.colosseo.it from 7 days before. “A Night at the Colosseum” (Tuesdays and Thursdays until 26 November, €50) covers the Colosseum, not the Forum. Evening walks such as the twilight tour stay outside and look down on the ruins. The Capitoline terraces and Via dei Fori Imperiali cost nothing.
Can you visit the Roman Forum at night?
Yes, on the Park's official guided tour every Friday from 7.30 pm, last admission 8.30 pm. There is no self-guided night entry and no night opening of the Palatine.
“A Night at the Roman Forum” is a guided visit of about 75 minutes for up to 25 people. You go in at Largo della Salara Vecchia, walk the Via Sacra toward the Capitoline, tour the central Forum, enter the House of the Vestal Virgins and the Temple of Vesta, then stop at the Temple of Antoninus and Faustina, now the church of San Lorenzo in Miranda, before leaving by the same gate.
Tickets appear 7 days before each Friday and are sold only on ticketing.colosseo.it. The Park's page does not give a last date for the 2026 series, so check it before you build a trip around a Friday in December. Christmas Day and New Year's Day both fall on a Friday this winter, and the Park is closed on both.

How much is “A Night at the Roman Forum”, and what does the ticket include?
€35 full price: a Forum Pass SUPER at €18 plus a €17 guided tour. The SUPER ticket then opens the Forum, the Palatine, the SUPER sites and the Imperial Fora on the following day only.
That second day is the best deal on this page. Do the tour on Friday night and come back on Saturday morning with the same ticket for the House of Augustus, Santa Maria Antiqua and the rest of the SUPER sites. Saturday only: the ticket is not valid on Friday daytime or on Sunday.
EU citizens aged 18 to 24 pay €19 (€2 for the pass plus the €17 tour). People entitled to free entry, Membership Card holders included, pay €17 for the tour alone. Children under 6 go free.
The tickets are named and the page says the name cannot be changed after purchase. If it does not match your ID, you do not get in and you do not get your money back. Type carefully. The wider 2026 rules are in our ticket rules post.

Check dates for the Forum and Palatine tourWhat is “A Night at the Colosseum”, and does it include the Forum?
A 60-minute guided night visit to the Colosseum's first tier, arena and underground, Tuesdays and Thursdays until 26 November 2026, for €50. The tour stays inside the Colosseum, but its ticket opens the Forum and Palatine by day.
The Colosseum night visit runs from 8 to 11 pm, last admission 9.50 pm, for 25 people at a time. You enter through the Valadier gate, cross the arena floor and go down into the underground corridors and lifts. The €50 is a Full Experience ticket (€24) plus a €26 guided tour; reduced is €28.
The ticket is valid for the Forum, the Palatine and the SUPER sites on the day before, the day of and the day after the visit. That makes a neat pairing: the Forum by day on Tuesday, the Colosseum underground that night. The last date in the 2026 series is Thursday 26 November.
Like the Forum tour, it is sold only on the official ticketing site, from 7 days ahead, and the name cannot be changed.
Does the twilight walk go inside the Roman Forum?
No. More of Rome's twilight tour is a 1.5-hour walk outside the ruins, from Piazza Venezia over the Capitoline and along Via dei Fori Imperiali to Monti and the Colosseum. You see the floodlit Forum from above.
The twilight walk meets at the main gate of the Vittoriano in Piazza Venezia, where the guide holds a "MORE OF ROME" sign. The listed stops: Piazza Venezia (10 minutes), Piazza del Campidoglio (10), Via dei Fori Imperiali (15), Rione Monti (20), past the Borgia steps to the Borgia tower (10), and Piazza del Colosseo (20). No tickets, no gates, no security lines. It costs from $45, takes at most 15 people and cancels for free up to 24 hours before.
Two things on the listing confuse people. Its web address still says "Eternal Ghosts of Colosseum, Adults Only", left over from an older ghost-themed product, and the blurb promises "dark tales". The age bands tell the real story: adults are 16 and up, and children aged 4 to 15 can book at the child rate.
It holds 4.8 stars from 312 reviews, and guests mostly name their guide. The complaints are practical: one guest found the meeting point hard to locate among roadworks and noted there are no headsets, so stand close. Reviews from December and March show it runs in winter, rain included. It is not wheelchair accessible.

An easy evening walk past the floodlit Forum, through Monti and down to the lit Colosseum. Small group, no tickets to buy.
Explore the twilight walk Tour detailsWhere can you see the Roman Forum lit up at night for free?
From the terraces on either side of Palazzo Senatorio on the Capitoline, and from the pavement of Via dei Fori Imperiali. Both are public streets, open after the Park closes.
The Capitoline view is the classic. Climb the Cordonata ramp from Piazza d'Aracoeli to Piazza del Campidoglio, walk to the back of the square and take the lane on either side of Palazzo Senatorio. The terraces behind it look straight down the Forum: the Temple of Saturn and the Arch of Septimius Severus below you, the Column of Phocas in the middle, the Colosseum lit at the far end.
Via dei Fori Imperiali runs past the Imperial Fora toward the Colosseum, with the Forum of Caesar and Trajan's Forum lit beside the pavement and the bronze statues of the emperors along the way. From there it is five minutes uphill into Monti for dinner.
Both routes are well lit and busy until late. Keep the usual eye on bags around the Colosseum.

Which Roman Forum night option should you choose?
Inside the Forum: the Friday official tour. The Colosseum underground at night: a Tuesday or Thursday before 26 November. Floodlit views with a storyteller: the twilight walk. Views on no budget: the Capitoline terraces.
If walking the Via Sacra in the dark is the point, nothing else does it. Book the Friday tour the moment tickets open, 7 days ahead, and keep Saturday morning free for the SUPER sites.
If you want context more than access, the twilight walk is the relaxed choice: no tickets, no ID checks, and a guide who explains what the lit ruins were while you walk. If you have already done the Forum by day, the free terraces may be all you need. The daytime options are in our ticket guide.
